The Spirit of Giving

The Charles Reid Foundation (CRF) is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit corporation founded by the family of the late Mr. Charles R. Reid Sr.

The Foundation was established to continue the “Tradition of the Christmas Spirit” while serving underprivileged youth in Richmond and the surrounding communities.

Our Annual Children's Christmas Party is a Charles Reid tradition that welcomes the spirit of giving and supports children and their families during the holiday season. Additionally, CRF has worked with the school districts to provide financial assistance and supplies to students in need.

We focus on serving the youth as we honor the legacy of Charles R. Reid, Sr.

Your support helps us bring joy, dignity, and hope to children and families in Richmond. Every contribution directly funds gifts, clothing, meals, and community programs that make the holiday season brighter for kids who need it most. Thank you for helping keep this tradition of giving alive.

The Spirit of Serving

Charles Reid Christmas Party

Since 2008, the Charles Reid Foundation has teamed up with the Richmond PAL Community Center to host the Children's Christmas Party at the PAL Center location on 2200 Macdonald Avenue, Richmond, CA 94804.

For the city of Richmond, this celebration has been a joyful tradition for over 75 years. Kids ages 2–12 have the chance to meet Santa, choose a new toy, and pick out warm clothing and essentials to take home. The day is filled with laughter, music, and togetherness — creating a welcoming space where families and neighbors come together to celebrate the spirit of Christmas. What began as a small neighborhood gathering has grown into a cherished tradition that continues to honor community, connection, and the legacy of giving in Richmond.

2025 Charles Reid Annual Children's Christmas Party!

It all started in 1947 when Charles Reid handed out some Christmas stockings stuffed with food and toys in his Richmond neighborhood. Reid lived across the street from the city park that would eventually bear his name.

It was a way, he said, to support underprivileged children and ignite the spirit of giving.

In the ensuing decades, Reid’s holiday vision expanded into a community gathering that, at times, has provided holiday cheer to as many as 2,000 people. Read more...
